Most definitely. My brown belt had frayed a little bit, because I had it for about three years (we have three levels of brown); you'll see some wear, soon.

my black belt never frayed in the 5 years i wore it.

Now you use head for something other than target.

Well, you must live in a containment lab and tie your belt with rubber gloves, very carefully. :D

That's kinda weird for me, but it might just be because I've never kept the same belt for more than 8 months, but I've never really noticed fraying. plenty of loss of colour, but no frays. but I don't get my blackbelt till this December (hopefully!). Maybe it will happen a bit then

Most coloured belts tend to be just the dyed inner core though, whereas the better quality black belts are usually cotton, satin or silk stitched over the white inner core.

I don't think coloured belts have a white core. I've seen students over the years who've had their coloured belt for a long time and it's gotten a lot of wear. I doubt you'll ever see a frayed coloured belt. Although I think Tokaido do coloured belts (for tournaments i guess) so they might have a white core.

I finally replaced mine old tokaido belt after 10 years of wearing it, jsut go I can wear it on special occasions and not worry about it ripping.

good idea, one of my sensei ripped his belt and he was so mad,
