Spirit At Choice
Getting beat up before becoming a black sash/belt as lesson in humility does not happen. Bad seeds are weeded out in the beginning.I didn't mean it literally. My (minimal) exposure to martial arts indicated that even a skilled fighter would have difficulty getting promoted if (s)he were a hothead or immature, etc. My sensei once remarked that in higher rank tests (I'm a noob) they try to stress out the candidates, and that anger, tears or defeatism is an automatic failure.I think I'm going to trust my gut on this and lose his number. Maybe he was just trying to impress me, but I still think there's something a little 'off' about the guy. Too bad, though. He was articulate and well mannered. Very charming. White belt mind. Black belt heart....Rejoice and be glad!

I guess it all depends on the Sifu, Sensei or Head Instructor. While most immature hothead types quit or get kicked out, some do make it through. I think we all have encountered black belts that belong in the cobra-kai dojo.
SatyagrahaKF
You could just try asking him what's his deal... Seek not and you will find. -Lao Tsu
Spirit At Choice
You could just try asking him what's his deal...Nah. He gives me the hee-bee-dee-bee-jee-bees, Maurice. I think I'll trust that. The more I think about my conversation with him, the more I think he was playing me. I'm confident he was lying about the MA stuff, so now I'm questioning everything else he told me.I don't have time for holding his hand through How To Be Honest In A Relationship lessons. I have kids, a job, school and an intense hobby. He'll have to find another teacher. White belt mind. Black belt heart....Rejoice and be glad! ki master
I think its just talk cause he won a few rounds and maby took out a big guy because he had a bad day "Now the valiant can fight; the cautious can defend, and the wise counsel. Thus there is none whose talent is wasted."-Li Ch'uan-
