Someone said this to me once and it stuck in my head. "Not all Black Belts are Equal, some Black Belts are more equal than others!"

This is so true.

Just wanted to share that with you guys.

i dont know how it is with the other arts

but with the type of kung fu and kickboxing that i study, if your a black belt, your damn good, there is no such things as a minimum number of required lesson or not, if you cant do the techniques and prove you can fight well then you earn it, there aint no set time, i know people who have been brown belt for all there lives and never achieved a black belt because you have to be that good

i know there are alot of mcdojos out there

but regardless of that, if your a black belt , you can fight, and the chances are he/she could kick your ass

This brings back the old saying

SIZE MATTERS!!!!

5'5" Black Belt Vs 6'5" Purple belt???

We have this in our dojo the purple belt is built like a brick wall and towers over the BB.

I would put my money on the big guy even though that particular BB is very good.

BTW IM a little biased the big guy does a number on me in sparring too!!!

i don't blame them for having the pride of getting the black belt. but i always view it this way:

"the wisest is always the most humble"

dog's that bark don't bite well, that's why they have to bark to try to scare the enemy away. if one is so obsessed by their present level, then they won't go far, for i believe true MA training is a life time training..

from another point of view, you don't need a BB to be arrogant. you cuold be doing MT and be arrogant. so it's just comes down to the individual. if they're a jerk, then they'll always be a jerk.

say the taekwondo guys at my college (no offence guys). they go around boasting that they have a national team guy to teach them at the club. and they don't even know that we have a national coach to train us :uhoh:.. they're so arrogant they get so funny sometimes.. :uhoh:

I did not say you could not be arrogant if you done may thai, I am just saying. grading gets to peoples heads. read the orignal post and try to understand it, before you voice you opinion, then you will relise you have basicly repeated what I have been trying to say.

Pride (the feeling)

In my opinion respect should be shown to all students in class equally, someones ability in the MA class does not make them better or worse than anyone else, it is your whole life that makes you the person you are, not just how good you are in the dojo.

I disagree.. Respect is earnt, not a right. I know the guy who comes once a month has no respect compared to the guys who are there every lesson and rightfully so. Someone's ability will earn them respect, but, effort and the will to learn also earns respect. Arrogance doesn't earn respect, it earns a longing for somoene to give you an ass kicking to humble you. Should we give respect to the rapist who comes along to learn techniques he can use to rape someone ? Respect has to be earnt through your dedication and training.. It's also propotional to how much respect you show. Should the person who shows no respect be given respect ? Some might say show more respect, but I disagree, I think it's their loss, not the person being shown no respect.

It takes sacrifice to be the best.

There are always two choices, two paths to take. One is easy. And its only reward is that it's easy.

yes, you did not say that "you could not be arrogant if you done may thai", neither did you say that "you could be arrogant if you done muay thai".

maybe my english skills are a bit limited, but these are the points i got from your post:

-grading could make people arrogant

-everyone should be treated with respect

-it's your whole life that makes you a good person, not just MA

-and then you go on saying how you would like MT to have a grading system so that you can let others know how good you are. but in the end, you don't really care.

-then you said the MT class you went to was very friendly.

what i said:

- i don't blame them for having the pride of getting the black belt.

-it just comes down to the individual, not the system.

tell me, what are the points i have repeated?

you were saying "grading gets to peoples heads" and i'm saying that it's not the grading, it's the people.
