jaymac
Be sure to warm up first (push ups, sit ups). Do lunge like stretches increasing your stretch as tolerated. Follow up with hot shower and Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) 800mg every 8 hours if 180lbs or more or 600mg every 6 hours if under 180 lbs. Good luck with your testing and tournament. I think that the adrenaline you have during those events will keep you pain free. A great martial artist is one who is humble and respectful of others. P.A.L
i can tell you one thing , most of a times injuries wouldn't get healed because we don't give it a rest, i was in cast for 6 months for a small fracture because i was keep walking on it, finally doctor cut the cast and told me to get the hell out of his office. same with ligements and tendons you gotta give them some time to regenerate, keep streching them woldn't let them healed. If you aren't going to have to wait another year or anything, I'd skip it, and just be sure to prevent a perminant injury- putting your training on hold is far superior to having it stopped altogether. Good luck and go slowly You suck-train harder.......................Don't block with your faceA good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving. -Lao Tzu

They take forever to heal and they get (usually) reinjured several times while you heal because we all walk, run, and rush back. The problem is that even though they start to feel better they take lots of time. When I've had them and needed to compete in a sport, I've found that steam rooms, hot baths/tubs, massage, etc all help get you through, but don't make them get better. The key is to keep your body nice and relaxed. But don't say that folks didn't warn you that this is very risky. Know that you're risking possibly bigger injuries if you rush back and don't let things heal properly. Train at your own risk.

I always suggest that folks find a really good doctor if they workout and are involved in sports and/or martial arts. Most people think they're doctor is pretty good, but if you do some digging and study you'll find that they're not. I finally found a pretty good one after a long long long search. What makes him good is that he's willing to work with me. He listens to what I have to say and he doesn't dismiss my comments. He knows I know my body well and we work together as part of a team. And he stays on top of fitness and is one of the few doctors that I've found that really worksout hard on a regular basis. Plus he's pretty cool also. Anyway, like martial arts training finding a good doctor takes time and effort and just the first one you find or the one your friend recommends may not be right for you.As far as groin injuries they take LOTS of time to heal. A month can be long for a minor pull, but it can be quick for anything more. Plus as I said, they are really prone to reinjury. But you're right, getting it checked out is a good think if the person hasn't done so and if things don't seem to be getting better.
