dafabe Posted April 15, 2002 Posted April 15, 2002 does anyone else feel they are "over carefull " about sparing and end up moveing to slow? ramcalgary Posted April 15, 2002 Posted April 15, 2002 One the hardest things to learn when sparring is not to be afraid to get hit. Honor is the most important thing a man has once you lose it it is gone forever
Taikudo-ka Posted April 15, 2002 Posted April 15, 2002 Actually, my main thing is not to get hit, rather than being afraid... I copped a nice round-house to the head today, also a completely unexpected roundhouse punch from a black-belt (Same location)... At least we pad up for the full contact How do you Muay Thai guys spar? I'm assuming full contact, but do you wear equipment? helmet? pads? gloves? What is the go? KarateForums.com - Sempai
dafabe Posted April 15, 2002 Author Posted April 15, 2002 at the club I got to all we have are shorts and hand warpas dipped in glue and glass, just kidding, but seriously we wear shin gaurds and boxing gloves, no other pading. the shin gaurds are good as it alowes us to hit resonable hard with out hurting as much when you dont have tough shins this is a good thing. ) "perfection, is something we all get closer too with training, but you will never get there and untill you accept this your mind will be limited in what you can achive"- Dave
YODA Posted April 15, 2002 Posted April 15, 2002 Ohhh Dave - you don't wear a mouthpiece or a cup? Yikes! dafabe Posted April 15, 2002 Author Posted April 15, 2002 sorry gum sheild to and a cup is optional. we dont alow groin shots or elbows/knees to the head, in training. I dont have a cup yet or gum sheild, but i will soon, yes it is sore as your side it a bad place to get hit and your thighs too. also kicks to the head are fair play. YODA Posted April 15, 2002 Posted April 15, 2002 I have some very predictable & simple advice - buy a cup & a mouthpiece. It takes ONE misplaced kick to give you major problems. I once threw a leg kick as my sparring partner was tghrowing a high kick - I impacted hard into his "inner sanctum" - he was pasing blood for weeks & needed hospital treatment. Not good. How you can spar Thai style on a reguar basis without a mouthpiece beats me - you must either be going VERY light or you have lips made from neoprene! Bon Posted April 15, 2002 Posted April 15, 2002 I did kickboxing for a year without a mouth piece. Control was the name of the game, if the kick was off target, we'd pull out.
