GTF Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 (edited) recently i saw an extract from the tao te ching by lao tzu and thought that it seemed interesting so began looking for english translations of it and i was wonering if anyone here had read it(i believe thhat i also saw that someone had quoted it in there signiture). it seems that there are alot of translations of it out there so i was wondering if any of them had lost any meaning or if they are jus different ways of saying the same thing(they all look similar). can any one recomend a good translation of it please. lordtariel Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 I've read it both on the internet and from a book. The translations are slightly different, but not so much so that it completely changes meaning. It's short enough that reading a couple translations is not necessarily a bad idea. I reccomend to find translations that are straight translations and that don't break off in the middle of passages to include the translator's notes on what they think those passages mean. Form your own opinion as to what it means, then look at other people's thoughts. There's no place like 127.0.0.1
