Sleepy_r0b Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 hey guys im new to weapons at the mo, ive done other martial arts such as Judo, tae-kwon-do karate etc but weapons fighting is completely different to anyhing ive done before. im learning nunchaku if you hadn't guessed from the title and was wondering if there was anybody out there that could give me a few tips.Hopefully this thread can help others in my position too. Thanks for readingRob Shigata ga nai
battousai16 Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 keep your elbows out. nothing hurts worse than being nailed in the funny bone with a stray handle. oh, except for one thing: make sure you take care of your nunchaku, because the only thing worse than nailing yourself in the elbow is when your bearing or a frayed chord snaps and the handle sails into someone elses elbow... or face, or what have you... Hogosha Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Like the above said, keep your elbows out at all costs. Another thing, don't try advancing too quickly because your form wont be as good as it should be. - Hogosha
AndrewGreen Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Get a heavy bag and beat on it with them, learn how to actually hit things instead of just spinning them in fancy patterns. Which you can do as well, but learn how to hit first.Get (or make) some lightly padded ones, get some gloves and masks and have a go at it. Nunchaku are not the most effective weapon by a long shot, if learning how to fight with them is your goal you'd be better off starting with some stick fighting, then bring nunchaku in once you got a grasp of that. Sleepy_r0b Posted March 15, 2006 Author Posted March 15, 2006 Cheers guys that helps alotYes i realise how important the elbow thing is as i still cant really feel my hands.Ive also got an old punch bad which ill use now. and i know that fighting with a nunchaku its not that effective but i like it as it is diverse to most other weapons. plus my mate has a bo staff which i will nick and practise with also. NeoDanteX Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 I think the best protection to wear while practicing Nunchaku is a cup. Ive hit myself three times in the groin with my chucks and good thing there here foam.So if you can, wear a cup, I wouldnt worry about hitting yourself in the face or in the head because believe hitting down there is so much worse-lol.Speaking of which, Does anyone know a good Nunchaku Training Video's??????
Brandon Fisher Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 Learn to snap your wrist at the striking point similar to when punching it will help add power and control over the nunchaku. People have estimated my speed with a single traditional nunchaku at more than 100 miles an hour and I am visually impaired. The interesting thing is though I rarely hit myself extremely hard anymore because of that one detail. Make sure your wrists are strong but flexible also. Good luck you have choosen my favorite weapon. Brandon FisherSeijitsu Shin Do
Sleepy_r0b Posted March 23, 2006 Author Posted March 23, 2006 Yeah bout the wrist strength are there any excersizes i can do to strengthen them. Shigata ga nai
Brandon Fisher Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 Yeah bout the wrist strength are there any excersizes i can do to strengthen them.Knuckle push ups are great for wrist strength. with the nunchaku in closed postion holding both handles in one hand rotate your wrist both clockwise and counter clockwise. If you really get serious go to bushipower.com and get the punch blcok charger.
