Maximilian Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 Hey guys im looking at getting into martial arts, i will try to give you some information about me and if you have any advice that would be great. The main reason i want to learn a MA is for self-defense but maybe another style of fighting might be beter. I have posted here before so some of you might remember me im 140 pounds 6' 1" i wear size 15 shoes and im 13 years old. Some of you recomended a kicking art and this is where im leaning right now. Right now i just need to decide on an art and pick a school. Thanks for your help -Max
jaymac Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 Max, what is available in your area? Obviously most responses are going to be for the style that someone is already taking. It depends. If you would like a grappling style, you could try BJJ. A nice stand up art is Shotokan. A good kicking art is TKD. An effective and beautiful art is a style of Kung fu. Now these are just general ideas. There is so much to these and other Martial Arts. Almost every school out there offers a short term trial membership. Visit as many schools as you can and watch a class, talk to the instructor and tell him/her what you are looking for. Try a couple of classes at each school and make your decision that way. I think just choosing to do Martial Arts in general is awesome. Good luck and keep us posted on what you decide. A great martial artist is one who is humble and respectful of others.

There's an Olympic medal out there with your name on it. Seriously. Your dimensions are perfect to be a REALLY good swimmer.Respectfully,Sohan "If I cannot become one of extraordinary accomplishment, I will not walk the earth." patusai Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 Im having a hard time finding a dojo... I live in Wenatchee Washington if someone could help that would be great. Thanks again for your help -MaxI did a search Wenatchee Washington karate and came up with what appears to be a number.Wenatchee School Of Karate was one of them. There are others that may be in neighboring towns. Try the search as I have and see if any town is near yours. Also, I would check park districts in your surrounding area to see if they offer MA. Around where I am a lot of instructors teach through churches and park districts. Good luck on your path "Don't tell me the sky's the limit because I have seen footprints on the moon!" -- Paul Brandt

Actually more like Ian Thorpe of Australia. He has been noted for his size 16 feet and was the youngest male world swimming champion at age 14. Mine were size 11 in High School and I could only dream of such success.Respectfully,Sohan "If I cannot become one of extraordinary accomplishment, I will not walk the earth."
