Law query - Please reply as I need to know

Recommended Posts

Is there a law in the UK that allows/disallows a person to defend themselves from a group with a weapon such as a staff/nunchaku/etc.?

I want to know as most people who pickfights in my school do so in groups against one/two people and I wanted to know whether i could use one of the aforementioned weapons to inflict injury on anyone who attacks me in such a maner.

Thanx for your replies in advance

I’m from America, so I’m not fluent with U.K. laws. I would say for your question about the law, call your local police department.

As far as taking a weapon to school, that is a very bad idea. If you or someone you know is having a problem with bullies, talk to a parent or teacher. Don’t try to take this matter into your own hands.

Just note I don't carry weapons to school. I am talking about improvised weapons such as sticks to be used like staffs and other possible improvisations.

Well, I am no expert in law, UK or otherwise either, but I would be surprised if you were not allowed to defend yourself when you were being attacked.

That said, chances are also good that using a weapon to defend yourself will get you into trouble anyway.

If you have no choice, by all means defend yourself.

However, it is preferable to retreat if possible. You get to avoid potential difficult and embarrassing investigative and legal proceedings to determine if you were in actual danger and your use of force was actually necessary. Even if it was necessary, you might still be in trouble if your use of force was excessive. Keep in mind you might face both criminal charges and lawsuits from anyone you injured.

Hmm. Hello. This is the floor. How did I get here?

I contact your police department or consult with someone familiar with the law....Lawyer maybe.

Speaking as a UK school employee, dude, you will probably get expelled. Regardless of provocation, if you take a chair leg to another kid, you will face severe consequences.

If you've got problems, i know it isn't 'cool', but speak to a member of staff.

I don't have problems at the moment, but a mate of mine got done for defending himself with a d-lock against 5 chavs who were trying to jump him. 1 of the chavs had a knife, but didn't use it.

My mate got arrested because he hit 2 of the chavs over the head with the lock, after they started hitting him.

I can only assume that the Police thought that didn't constitute reasonable force.

He got done for using excessive violence, but all the chavs got done for unprovoked assault.

ok since it doesnt look like there have been many UK replies... if they're unarmed then NO YOU CANNOT USE A WEAPON - sounds weird but a weapon counts as agressive no matter what... unless THEY are armed... sorry to say it, but if you defend with a weapon against unarmed groups you will likely get done... :(
