Sohan Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 That's the one issue I have with my traditional MA training--where's the practicality? Most of the weapons or their equivalents that I train with aren't likely to be used in real action unless I'm a cop or soldier. My knife, however, may indeed save my life someday.Respectfully,Sohan "If I cannot become one of extraordinary accomplishment, I will not walk the earth." Cybren Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 any weapon? I'd like a bowie knife, a set of brass knuckles, and a handgun. I wouldn't ever carry any of them, but i'd like to own them.if i wanted something for self defense i might take a stun gun or something.
cathal Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 I am more proficient with the Bo, but I do prefer using the sword. .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu
Aodhan Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 For kata, sword and kama. For fun, bo staff. For combat, escrima and knife. They are the most likely to be available somewhere that you can carry or pick up off the street.Aodhan There are some people who live in a dream world, and there are some who face reality; and then there are those who turn one into the other.-Douglas Everett, American hockey player
Brandon Fisher Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Nunchaku and Kama are my favorites. Bo is becoming a close second to those. Brandon FisherSeijitsu Shin Do
Christoffer_kun Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 i love the nunchakus. they have saved me once... from getting bored! they still do. Carpe diem. pick up the day like a flower, and you will get a bouqet of life.

I wouldn't rely on them for self defense.

bushido_man96 Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 I would prefer to learn the quarterstaff (European/English style), and the escrima stick. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
patusai Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 I noticed that only two of you picked a weapon that you can carry around with you...Great observation! Before I get too much older I think that I am going to find someplace that can teach me to use a walking cane as a weapon though....just in case. But...the more I think about it I would not want the cane taken away from me and used on me in my old age...
