My master recently suggested that I try using an Iron Arm conditioning rod ( which I think is also called a maki stick in Japanese). He specifically recommended it for use in toughening my feet because I suffer from plantar fasciitis, but also for overall conditioning.

Anyone had experience using an Iron Arm for conditioning, and if so, can you recommend the best way to use it?

I used one for about a year. There really wasn't much to it. I just sat and struck my shins while I was watching tv. Over time, my shins did toughen up and I could use them as a striking surface with the round house kick. Never tried it on my feet, though.

Yes I use them its a good bit of kit for coditioning, I do a ten minute routine with it daily working the arms legs and torso. Little and often is the way and I find rubbing in tiger balm after seems to help. It is important with this type of conditioning to get the blood flowing around the conditioned areas after your routine a rubbing motion after helps and as I said you could use tiger balm which makes you do this when applying.

However I would not reccomend it to help with your feet try the suggestions on this link.

We are necessarily imperfect and therefore always in a state of growth,

We can always learn more and therefore perform better.
