Jiffy Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 For our school, there is a minimum time to black. This is generally no where near the time it actually takes, so is never a hinderance. Not really sure where it came from, just one of those traditions we have kept. For memory, the minimum time is 2 years. But the fastest we have ever graded someone to black is about 5.5... and he was very fast!!I don't see a problem with having a minimum time. While often, people can show the physical prowess quite early, rarely do they have the understanding. The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
MartialArthur Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 I think if you walk into a school and they say that you will be a black belt in two years, you better think twice. A good school may give you an average range but will not make promises or guarantees of timelines.Like I said several times here, I don't think such a school exists. It's a myth. I'd like to see someone prove me wrong. Give me a name...
