I have no video titles to offer but there are wuite a few good shotokan books out there that will help you along in your training. welcome to the world of shotokan karate.

hi. dude you should go to every martial art in your new city and choose the one for you, it may be shotokan and it may not be.

Pain is a sensation and all sensations should be enjoyed.

The first book I would recommend is Karate-do Kyohan by Funakoshi Gichin. This is pretty much the original Shotokan textbook (unless you are lucky enough to be able to get hold of one of his earlier works).

I agree. This book is great. However, I have found some instructors have variations of the kata so, as mentione before, ask the instuctor for advise.

These are the “big” names in the US, all having studied with Funakoshi Sensei in Japan in the 40’s and 50’s (yes they are all old, but good)

Hidetaka Nishiyama – Los Angeles – ITKF and JKA

Teruyuki Okazaki – Philadelphia - ISKF and JKA

Takayuki Mikami - Louisiana - ISKF and JKA

Yutaka Yaguchi - Colorado- ISKF and JKA

Shojiro Koyama – Phoenix Arizona- ISKF and JKA

Shigeru Takashina – Florida- ISKF and JKA

Tsutomu Ohshima – Los Angeles - SKA

Sorry, I am not terribly familiar with the names of Karatekas outside of Shudokan/close relatives of Shudokan. Is that Gichin Funakoshi's son?

Kenneth Funakoshi is related to GF, but I beleive he is a "grand nephew". GF's son that studied Karate dies of Tuberculosis when he was young (before he turned 40 I think).
