karatekid101 Posted March 5, 2006 Posted March 5, 2006 I do Shotokan! Good Luck. KarateKid101"The answers to life aren't in the back of the book"- Charlie Brown
patusai Posted March 5, 2006 Posted March 5, 2006 The first book I would recommend is Karate-do Kyohan by Funakoshi Gichin. This is pretty much the original Shotokan textbook (unless you are lucky enough to be able to get hold of one of his earlier works).I agree. This book is great. However, I have found some instructors have variations of the kata so, as mentione before, ask the instuctor for advise.Welcome to KF "Don't tell me the sky's the limit because I have seen footprints on the moon!" -- Paul Brandt

Whitefeather Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 Kenneth FunakoshiSorry, I am not terribly familiar with the names of Karatekas outside of Shudokan/close relatives of Shudokan. Is that Gichin Funakoshi's son?David "Between genius and insanity, there lies a fine line. I like to think of it as the tip of the diving board."-An anonymous insane genius"Fight I, not as one that beateth the air"
knarfster Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Kenneth Funakoshi is related to GF, but I beleive he is a "grand nephew". GF's son that studied Karate dies of Tuberculosis when he was young (before he turned 40 I think).
