Son Goku the monkeyking
i was wondering, i saw some clips fro old UFC fights like from 80's and 90's and in those fights it had alot more different fighters of different styles other than BJJ, milletech , and kickboxing/muay tai. i saw a TKD, fighter, a wing chun, and tones MA styles that u see alot in tournaments, and here alot about like hapkido, but u never see them in the UFC nowadays they dont evenwere there gi's and uniforms are u still alowed to go to the UFC using other styles like TKD or wing chun, and stuff like that. or did they change it so that u have to do one of those grappling, takedowns, and kickboxing style.2) are u still allowed to were MA uniforms/Gi's or did they change that to.PEACE
seersin
I'm sure you could still wear a Gi if you wanted to,but so many people don't like tha backlash of wearing one easier to get grabbed,a few guys still wear them in Pride but tha number has vastly decreased. As far as what styles you can use anything you want as long as your a good fighter. The Crow David loiseau (sp?) is currently doing very very well, and is even up to fight Ace and he talks a lot about his TKD background. AndrewGreen
1) You could enter with those styles, if you got good enough in smaller events for them to sign you. Without a record they won't even look at you no matter what style. But, anyone that trains those styles won't make it and if they want to they will switch styles.2) No, you are not allowed to where a gi in the UFC, not even gi pants. seersin
Like I said,I'm not sure why UFC dosen't allow a Gi what-so-ever,I know a few guys in pride still wear em,.As far as not making it anywhere with any of those styles.I dunno what he meant by that, again look at The crow, hes fighting Rich franklin coming up,and could possibly win.He is a TKD guy. AndrewGreen
why could u were it in the past but not now. PEACEBefore it was a unregulated event not sanctioned by any governing body. There where virtually no rules, no weight classes and even no judges / rounds for a while. Now it falls under the Nevada State Boxing Commision, and is a sanctioned and regulated sport.Pride follows different rules, and they do a few things that aren't allowed in the UFC.The Gi is a weapon, it changes the nature of the fight. Now there is no grabbing of clothing allowed at all and gi's are not allowed. Andrew Greenhttp://innovativema.ca - All the top martial arts news! scottnshelly
Taken from the UFC website:Commission approved MMA shorts and kickboxing trunks are the only uniforms allowed. Shirts, gis and shoes, and the problems they present for grabbing are not allowed.
