kyokushin_coe Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 There is a young man in my neighborhood that walked down the street in his karate uniform.I had the opportunity to speak with him. He told me he was a 2nd degree black belt in Pasa Ryu (hope this is the right spelling)I asked why did he wear his uniform out in public like that. His response was "I just like to let people know who they will be dealing with if anyone tries something".A week after this conversation he was at the corner store and as usual in his uniform with his blackbelt on.A guy who hangs out around the store taking out garbage, and doing odd jobs asked him "is that your black belt"The young man said "yes".So are you pretty toughYeah I have won several tournaments. Then the guy asked "think you could give me a few lessons"Yeah Then the guy hit him square in the face and knoked him out .People laughed.I didn'tI knew that this cocky attitude would one day get the best of this guy.I only hope that we will learn as martial artist not to be cocky.remeber one sucker punch can end the fight.Coe brown belt kyokushinkia
Menjo Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 Wow, that guy is a disgrace to any martial art. I almost laughed but I relised that this is another example of the reason why the public is losing respect for certain martial arts. Who can blame them with guys like this walking around in a gi which is meant for training, he obviously had a messed up view of what Karate is. Thanks for posting that though, interesting and original. "Time is what we want most, but what we use worst"William Penn
red dawn Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 I hate to say it, but in some way this guy deserves to get hit. He just seemed like a show off. I don't usually tell people I'm in the MA let alone a black belt, I've noticed that leads to confrontation because people don't have respect for what the the MA truly is...just because your a black belt doesn't mean you can't lose a fight to someone who isn't a black belt. MA goes a little deeper than that. I never said it wasn't dangerous.
usc96 Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 Sounds like this guy had mental problems. He may have bought the uniform off e-bay.
Red J Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 Sounds like this guy had mental problems. He may have bought the uniform off e-bay.You can get one from Amazon.com as well. I had to lose my mind to come to my senses.
aefibird Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 You can get one from Amazon.com as well. The world is mental. *shakes head*You can also get "karate training kits" from Wal-Mart (ASDA to those of us in the UK!) with a blow-up punch bag and a mat showing you where to put your feet... Absolutely flippin' mental. No wonder martial arts are losing the respect of everyday people, when you can buy garbage like that off the internet and everyone seems to know a kid with a 6th Dan. ShadowFox Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 That why I say never act cocky for when you lose it will be even more disapointing than if you had acted humble. I know a lot of black belts friends and I can problary take a few of them. I don't really like wasting time arguing with cocky people they dont listern and it a waste of time and energy. THey dont get that they not all that till it knock them in the face, or in that guy case till he got punch in the face "Martial Arts is kinda like yin and yang when you think about it; it 50% physical and 50% mental"
bruceflea Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Wonder if he has learnt his lesson? Pretty strange behaviour. Wouldnt be suprised if he tries to dress like superman or batman next time.Hopefully the other guy might have knocked some sense into him!!I dont believe he is a black belt in anything...that takes disipline, control and self reflection...all the things he seems to lack.I actually feel a little sorry for him, his self esteem must be low. Wouldnt be suprised if he was bullied as a kid in all seriousness. Be like water my friend!!
Meguro Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 I dont believe he is a black belt in anything...that takes disipline, control and self reflection...all the things he seems to lack.Unless he got super-sized fries with his black belt. Then it's just as expected.
