This is a ver blunt set of questions.. but feel free to give an answer providing reasons...

*best suitable MA for street fighting

*best for physical/mental strength.

*and endurance/toughness

I wan't to start a well rounded, not overratred MA to join

There is no definite answer to any of those questions.

I recommend Kyokushin for everything, but I am a little biased...

Like said before, everyones going to have some bias, however of course I'd say Shotokan. Shotokan seems to either work very well for someone or completyl not work for them at all. Muay Thai can be overrated however its gottin alot of fame because of its realist approch to "fighting". For what I know of you(which is very very little) I might suggest Ju-jitsu which combines stand up thechniques to get your opponent down and neutralizes the situation depending on your skill and training. Theres no best for street fighting, no best for any category really so look around in your area and check out the various dojos and what looks and sounds best to you. Drop by and talk to whoevers in charge and you can look for some very exellent internet sources for chossing a dojo or right here at KF. Try your options and then perhaps people here can give some more background and tips. Thats all I can say about chosing your dojo.

this is very general but here we go:

1- Sniper on the street > crane or snake based MA

2- tank on the street > Muai thai

3- marching on the street > shotokan

4-kick and die on the street > TKD

5-hit and get hit > shorin/goju

6-die fantsy on the street > kong-Fu

7-die like brouce Lee >JKD

8- UFC on the street > MMA

9- Korean speaking Japaniees on the street>TSD/happkido

10- physical/endurance > bjj

11 toughness > kyokushin/muai thai

12-they hitting you ,you are doing kata > shito-ryu

As for your questions Dylan.McCullough;

I'd say for *best suitable MA for street fighting - something with good self defense.

*best for physical/mental strength - a traditional style.

*and endurance/toughness - any style + your dedication.

I find that not all styles donimate in Self defense. After Practicing Goju I have noticed that the self defense are very effective. TWD as I am in currently does not seem to have much self defence and I feel that's where it lacks.

I find it stronger now, that I'll imagine situations to create techniques for self defense, not for entertainment but for instintive aspects. I feel vulnerable, without continuous learning self defense techniques.

I really can not say about other styles. I do feel though that the grapling styles are not much help to me with me need for basic techniques and not throws. you should find a style that involves both in some form or another.

MMA or blended style (Combat Hapkido, Krav Maga) is usually best. The most important factor is that you actually practice real sparring and conflict.

If it works, use it!

If not, throw it out!

If you are training correctly your chosen art will work for you in a combative situation. The individual practioner over style.

That being said, Hung-Ga is my unbiased answer. 8)

this is just my opinion, but I don't think any ONE MA is the best for what your looking for. Your just going to have to see what's aviable in your area pick one and give it a try, if it doesn't work for you move on. You might even have to combine more than one MA into your training to get what your looking for what you feel is right for you. :D

Dylan, I'd say that you need to try out a few arts to find YOUR "best". What's best for me isn't necessarily best for you.

Plus, as I said on your thread in the Korean section, it depends on your reasons for training.

If you're looking for thows, sweeps, locks and arm bars then Muay Thai, TKD or Escrima aren't going to be any good for you.

If you want stand-up-trade-punches type MA then JuJutsu, Judo and Aikido aren't going to be your thing.

Similarly if you're not looking for weapons training then don't go with Iaido, Kendo or Arnis.

Decide what you want to get out of martial arts then visit the clubs in your area based on that.
