nanfeishen Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 Having done a google search looking for info on Wushu in the 2008 olympics, the only news i can find seems to date to a news article about Jacques Rogge of the IOC stating : "We are not introducing wushu into the Olympic program. It will not be an exhibition. Not at all," The article went on to ask about the 2012 games and beyond, and he said he didnt know what the future held. (Dated Oct 2005)The only thing i could discover was that the BOCOG ,(Beijing Organising Committee Olympic Games) may be organising a WuShu competition during the games, but they will not be part of the games themselves.Does anybody know different, or know of a link to a site that may give more info??links to articles: http://www.cansport.com/blog.php?blog_id=3http://sport.iafrica.com/olympics/news/503651.htmhttp://www.china.org.cn/english/2005/Oct/145502.htm[/url] Without long practice one cannot suddenly understand Tai Chi : - Tai Chi Classics
SigungWhite Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 This is heartbreaking. On Jan 14, 2006. I received an Email from the USA Wu Shu Kung Fu Association stating that they received information from IOC that Wu Shu was going to be in the 2008 Olympics. Someone needs to get their stories straight. I am sure your got this from the horses mouth, No offense. However, I know several practioners who were set on the 2008 games.Sigung WhiteMolum Pai Kung Fu 34 years in the Martial Arts, Certified Police Trainer. nanfeishen Posted February 13, 2006 Author Posted February 13, 2006 All the articles i read, were dated roughly Oct 2005, but i couldnt find any articles dated since with regards to the topic, i would be keen to know more if anybody knows of any site with further info. Was actually trying to find out which Tai Chi forms would be required, or performed.Personally i find that not having Wushu in the Beijing olympics is probabily the biggest slap in the face that the I.O.C. could ever do to China. ovine king Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 the last I heard, wushu was earmarked for 2008 as a demonstration event, as the host nation has a right to request an event to be included such. However, looking at the timetable for the events, it is clear that it isn't part of the schedule. Then again, I've never been too sure whether or not demonstration events are listed with the proper games or if it is an 'outside' thing.guess an e-mail is in order. earth is the asylum of the universe where the inmates have taken over.don't ask stupid questions and you won't get stupid answers.
SigungWhite Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 The International Kung Fu Federation is attempting to get Kung Fu in the Olympics as well. They will hold the 2006 Workd Game in New Deli, India this year. I would really like to see this happen. Sigung White 34 years in the Martial Arts, Certified Police Trainer. shift Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 What I don't get is why don't they just have martial arts in the olympics as opposed to TKD or Wushu?I know some will argue that you have judo seperate from wrestling and TKD seperate from boxing but I think wrestling and judo are sufficiently different enough to warrant them being seperated as well as boxing and TKD being vastly different. All popular martial arts teach striking and throws, why don't they jusy have kickboxing/sanda in olympics.I understand that this would change the entire sport and TKD would no longer look the same, but I saw last olympics tae kwon do and I was not very impressed. They look like chicken fights because the jump up and down wildly flinging their legs at each other and the faster more accurate and agile person wins.I used to do Tae Kwon do and I enjoyed every bit of it when I was a teenager, but I had to switch to kungfu and learn sanda because I got tired of fighting people and knowing that when I got beat it was because this person managed to get their toe to touch my shoulder and the judge scored it as a point. I much prefer to kick or punch and man and know that the pain inflicted breaks him down setting him up for my next strategy. My MMA Comic
SigungWhite Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 No one knows really why they don't have it, maybe costs, maybe polictics. Regardless of anything we do or say at the moment, there will be no me MA sports in the 2008 Olympics.Sigung White 34 years in the Martial Arts, Certified Police Trainer. shift Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 Wait when you say no MA sports you aren't including TKD and Judo are you? They can't possibly remove those. My MMA Comic
SigungWhite Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 That doesn't include judo or TKD because they are already estabished Olympic sports.Sigung White 34 years in the Martial Arts, Certified Police Trainer. Kill Jill Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 Yeah, I have to lament that there is no Wushu in the Olympics, even though I am myself a Taekwondo practitioner, and know that Wushu was excluded in favor of Taekwondo. I can admit that Wushu looks much better as a spectator sport than Taekwondo. Although, the Taekwondo bodies have modified the competition rules for the next Olympics to try and make it look more attractive.I wish they would cut some of that ice-dancing stuff to make an opening for wushu. There are no limits.http://taekwondodiaries.blogspot.com^^*
