What's a "nak-bop"/"duk-bop" in English?

Recommended Posts

In Hapkido, I have only ever learnt in a Korean only class. I was trying to tell some one that I am doing "Nak-Bop" and "Duk-Bop" maneouvres :-? , but failed to come up with an English equivalent.

How exactly do you translate these terms?

Nak bub in Kuk Sool Won is used for "Falling Techniques".

I don't know if this is the same as yours or not, as I am not fluent in Korean either. :(

Nak bob seems to be used for all those dives and flips on the mat.

Duk bob is used for the move which involves throwing the body up and landing on forarms and toetips.

Perhaps then, you're suggesting it's a blanket term for all falling techniques.

Okay, you are quoting individual techniques within Nak beop (Spelled it wrong before).

Your cartwheels and dive rolls are just that. However, you could group them as acrobatics if you like.

Your Duk Bob is a "Front fall".

Here's our trminology:

Ap Nak Beop ; Front Fall

Hoe Jeon Nak Beop ; Rolling Fall

Dwi Nak Beop ; Back Fall

Go Yang I Nak Beop ; Cat Roll (dive roll)

Yeop Nak Beop ; Side Fall

Du Son Pung Cha ; 2-Hand Cartwheel

Ah Yeop Nak Beop ; Twisting Fall (Sideways Front Fall)

Han Son Pung Cha ; 1-Hand Cartwheel

Pung Cha ; Windmill (Cartwheel)

Pal Kkum Chi Pung Cha ; Elbow Cartwheel

Gong Jung Nak Beop ; High Fall (in Mid-Air)

Gong Jung Pung Cha ; Aerial Cartwheel

In my dojang, we used alot of english terminology, but nak bop always meant breakfalls in general, which included rolling.
