I read your post and ordered a Tokon gi. I also wear shureido and am eagerly awating my tokon's arrival. In your opinion, how is the fit compared to shureido.

When compared to a tournament cut Shureido, Tokon sleeves and pantlegs are a bit longer. That can be helped by taking the do-gi to a seamstress. If one likes longer sleeves and pantlegs, there'll be no problem.

"Instructor" model has a bit narrower fit. Sovereign, America, Europa and Monarch are all roomy. There are no shortcuts or cheap solutions in their design - they're very good do-gi.

Just wondering how the gi wears, fits, lasts etc; from a karate ka on the boards.

They're on the level of top quality Japanese uniforms. Fabric is excellent and design very good. Of course, it's up to your body type how the do-gi exactly feels like.

Many of my friends have those uniforms and some have worn them for years in daily training. They last well and won't fray or shrink uncontrollably.

And as you noticed, their service is top notch. That's one thing their retailers seem to have everywhere.

A punch should stay like a treasure in the sleeve. It should not be used indiscrimately.

Reading this reminded me of some gi troubles we have at our dojo, perhaps one of you could help..

Nearly every childs gi on our dojo has pants that are too long. Most of the kids have to roll up the pantlegs every day, and sometimes in the middle of class. Is this standard with kids gi's? Or is it the brand we buy? TBH I'm not sure what brand that is, but they are black lightweight(student?) karate gi's.

I have been in contact with Marcus regarding his line of uniforms. You are correct in that he responds quickly to emails and is helpful. I am meeting up with him in Las Vegas at the Ozawa Cup in April. That way I can personally see his uniforms and choose what's best for me :karate:

Rateh, we too have similar issues with magazine style student uniforms. They hold up well but do not shrink. Suggestion would be to ask parents to have the pants hemmed. It is definitely a safety issue with the pants being too long. They can always grow into them and have the hem taken down.
