What's the differece between normal TKD and the 'Rhee' style? I just watched 'Best of the Best' and noticed that one of the stars was one of the Rhee boys. Phillip i think was his name.

Philip Rhee is a martial artist that I love to see in movies. It's obvious that he does more than just TKD. He has trained in fencing, kali and boxing also. I'm sure "Rhee" TKD has elements of these other arts in it. This is great though, because it means the martial art is evolving and breaking out of it's shell.

Check out Best of the Best 3, it has an awesome Kali-stick fight scene in it.

Righto, i'l check the whole series out. From the fight with Dehan at the end of the movie i was noticing some of the moves weren't essentially TKD moves.

I tell u what, that other main dude with the gimpy shoulder sure is a good cryer!

Eric Roberts is the worst actor ever.. I wish he wasn't in the movie. Oh well. How do you like Sean Penn's character in that movie? Now that's a brawler.

that was actually chris penn, seans brother...yeah he was a tough bastard..philip is an amazing martial artist i surprised he doesnt have more movies..the story lines were really weak in the best of the best seires but the action sequences were nice...master rhee (jhoon rhee) is the father of modern taekwondo in america ...i dont believe he had any involment in the best of the best you may have meant hee ill cho now this guy is nice!!he is also one of the pioneers of taekwondo in america..these kinds of instructors are the old school...i came up with this type of training before taekwon do became so watered down ..if you want to check out a movie by master rhee check out "when taekwondo strikes"

I have study both what some would call standard or traditional TKD and also Jhoon Rhee. Both have their pluses and minuses. both are good. I believe the main difference between the 2 is that JR TKD is mainly a sport style, and is more into teaching a more diverse art. It takes things from more than one and combines it. unlike the traditional that I have studied JH RH starts off in a much higher stance. Low stances are not encountered until about our blue belt (6th belt) to make the style more practical for sparring and if the need should ever arrise self defense.
