Shorin-Ryu Karateka Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Well last night during Ultimate Fight Night 3 on Spike TV Dana 'Freakin' White announced that in May Matt Hughes will defend his title against the man himself Royce Gracie.I'm interested in your thoughts regarding who you think will win the fight and how you think they'll win.Personally I'm on the fence. Both are truly incredible fighters and both will definitely be bringing their 'A' game to this, so I think it's going to go to the judges as a coin flip. Either that or one of them gets very lucky early and gets a submission. What do you all think? If he practices 3 times, I must practice 6 times -- Osensei Nagamine
traz Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Here's to hoping Royce by submission Like a midget at a urinal, I'm always on my toes
Mr. Mike Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 youth is king, but you can't argue with experience...I really can't say...all I know is it's going to be one HECK of a match! I won't miss this one! When a man's fortunate time comes, he meets a good friend; When a man has lost his luck, he meets a beautiful woman.-anonymous
UseoForce Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I detest Hughes' attitude. He gives MMA a bad name. I hope Royce destroys him, but, unfortunately, Hughes is prolly going to DESTROY Royce. Hughes is so POWERFUL, and hard to control. If it works, use it!If not, throw it out!

Hughes is so POWERFUL, and hard to control.Just to be curious, what don't you like about his attitude? And I agree, he's a freak of nature strength wise. I think Royce will have his hands full. DokterVet Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I'd bet on Hughes, although a Royce upset would be great to watch. I think Hughes will slam him to the mat and pound away. Royce will patiently fight from the bottom but I don't think he'll catch Hughes in anything. 22 years oldShootwrestlingFormerly Wado-Kai Karate
Semper Jab Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 For the sake of loving submissions and underdogs, I'm with Royce. "It's just a job. Grass grows, birds fly, waves pound the sand. I beat people up." - Muhammad Ali
TJS Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Im of cousre hoping for royce but be realistic...hughes by UD.The only guys that have beat hughes have done it quickly in the first round...lets face it Thats not Royces stlye..he tends to be the slower/technical..waer your opponet down type guy.Royce has fought bigger and stronger guys so I dont see hughes knocking him out or submitting him..combine that with the fact that royce isint going to be able to take him down very easily and you have a Hughes GNP to decision..
SubGrappler Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 I detest Hughes' attitude. He gives MMA a bad name. I hope Royce destroys him, but, unfortunately, Hughes is prolly going to DESTROY Royce. Hughes is so POWERFUL, and hard to control. How could you possibly think Hughes gives MMA a bad name? Hes a world class fighter and world class guy.About the fight, Im going to be cheering for Royce, but even under the very slim chance that he wins, hes going to be hurt bad.I dont think Royce is good enough to catch Hughes, but Hughes has shown in the past that hes vulnerable to triangles, which may turn out to be Royce's saving grace.
Mr. Mike Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 are we basing this on the Royce we saw more than ten years ago? Isn't it possible that he has gained some skills to make himself more rounded in all that time(especially since he knows he has a fight, and who that fight is against)? I would think he has been aware of Hughes' fighting style and has trained accordingly.
