tigerstyle18
I'm just curious as to why those of you who take TKD came to do so. I'm curious to hear some stories. Did it involve evaluation? Did a friend advise you? I pose the same qustions to anyone from other arts who would like to respond. When two tigers fight, one dies and the other is mortally wounded. ZR440
Common factors: Popularity, availability, reputation, cost. In my case it's because my instructor also taught a college class that I had taken years before and I knew of his accomplishments in Kuk Sool Won. Otherwise I probably would have ended up in TKD, but I'm glad I chose KSW instead. [ This Message was edited by: ZR440 on 2002-04-09 07:42 ] It's happy hour somewhere in the world. TaekwondoMS
I did because of the many feints and parries as well as the many side stepping techniques thus I have to rely on more timing than blocking
Pacificshore
Although I haven't taken TKD since my high school days, it was primarily the only M.A. school available at the time. Di'DaDeeeee!!!Mind of Mencia
KickChick
The type of martial art I wanted to get into was not the basis for my decision in choosing TKD... (but I'm glad I made the choice!) .... actually a girlfriend of mine's husband owned his own school (the school I am now still attending/teaching) and in talking one day at our children's bus stop she mentioned the fact that she was returning to TKD (she took a break after having kids)and would I be interested in doing so. I thought I would have my son (then 7) try it ... thought about it some more then decided to enroll also. That was 10 years ago. Now my girlfriend and I both teach and will be testing together for our second degrees!
Drunken Master
I started Taekwon-Do because it looked like the best martial art class in the area. And before any suggests I am talking rubbish I am not talking about WTF Taekwon-Do but in fact ITF Taekwon-Do. The classes are physically hard and are above all fun. I have been training now for over a year and am now 7th kup (Green Tag) and going for my green belt in 3 months. http://www.brianrbarton.com/dojang/dojangcouklogo.gif
Deathcometh
I just got into it because I need to learn how to defend myself.
TKD_McGee
I took TKD because of the way I am built, and also for its reputation for cool flying kicks and stuff. I really enjoy TKD, each art has its strength and weakness. Do unto others, as they done to you.
spinninggumby
I like taekwondo because it incorporates modern science into the constant improvement of the art. I admit that it is not the best martial art to take if all you are into is beating someone to the ground, but I love kicking and the way I am built I know that I could never really be a judoka or BJJ prodigy, hehe. I like jumping and acrobatic maneuvers and I love the use of the legs and hips and waist to generate energy and power. It is fun and not just hard work. The hard work is fun at the same time, and it pays off 'Conviction is a luxury for those on the sidelines'William Parcher, 'A BEAUTIFUL MIND'
tigerstyle18
hey spinninggumby what makes you think you're not built to train in BJJ? When two tigers fight, one dies and the other is mortally wounded.
