Just guessing but if it is destroying your belt, Gi being cottom I assume, it will wear that too I would think.

I train down the beach, but only once a year.

I think if you wash it thoroughly in fresh water afterwards, it should be fine.

Yes, the salt water is bad for your belt and uniform. Next time you train at the beach make sure you soak everything in water right away after. Then wash the uniform and at least rinse the belt a second time - I know some people don't like to wash the belt for some reason.

Some people were talking about this on Karate Underground. Check these out.

I think training on a beach in England would seriously damage your gi, as well as yourself.....as it really isn't a beach.

What point is there in washing your belt, it is temporary for most people. And for some people it is disrespectful to wash your belt. I dont wash my belt, but then again, whats the point?

Even the gi will, in time wear out....they don't last forever. If the salt destroys it a little faster...oh well such is the price one must pay for practicing in such an area. I don't see this as a bad thing. I am sure that gi manufacturers don't see this as a bad thing either :D
