I know, thats the way I always felt, until newbs started asking what were they doing to the guy's arm, and I couldn't provide an intelligent answer.

If it works, use it!

Actually, I think it is borderline irresponsible to apply a technique without understanding the extent of the damage it could do.

If it works, use it!

If not, throw it out!

there's a difference in knowing something works and knowing the exact medical explanation for it's function. one can know how much "damage" a technique might inflict if used to it's fullest extent, and still not care about the scientific theory behind it.

or perhaps i'm just silly...:P

Different attacks do different things. Sometimes it is breaking a bone, other times it is disslocating, or ripping tendons or ligaments.

in just about all cases youre popping tendons and thus "breaking" the arm or whatever at the joint. with chokes, youre cutting off their blood supply to their brain and rendering them unconcious.
