how many styles of martial arts did bruce lee study during his life, i ask that becasue i got his book for christmas" the tao of Jeet kune do" and i now that Jeet kune do incorporated techniques from many martial arts styles in it, to make his style. but whouldn't that men he whould have had to had alot of expierinece, in many others, styles of martial arts first, i meen even if u took notes on demonstrations and karate lessons, it seems to me that u whould still need a background in other styles besides wing chun kung-fu, in order, to lawfully make the descision about what a styles flaws, adn weeknesses, are and what is and is not needed, the only other thing i can remember he having a background in besides wing chun, was western/american boxing, which i no he also has incorporated into his style. :-? any answers to this question.

Just one, his, but he changed it a lot along the way and learnt from many sources. Which is what he tried to tell everyone else to do too. Do your own thing, don't worry about styles, take what you can from wherever you can, as long as you can make it work.

Interesting,

Honestly I have heard a number as high as sixty-five different arts that Sigung Lee studied. I know for a fact the foundation was formed out of the following plus a few others:

Wing Chun

Western Boxing

Fencing

Jiu-Jitsu

Muay Thai

In addition to those mentioned, Western wrestling, catch as catch can I believe. Also Judo and an array of Filipino martial arts. Oh, and Savate.

Its interesting to note how much of JKD (perhaps I should say Jun Fan in this case) is actually based on American and European fighting methods.

If it works, use it!

If not, throw it out!

I don't know how much of the arts he adopted, but Bruce Lee spent time with Jhoon Rhee (Taekwondo) and Ji Han Jae (Hapkido).

Define studied, does having read a book on it count? If not then 65 is no where near accurate.

He trained with many different people, looked at lots of things, and added things from those sources to his style. He did not formally train and get ranked in them.

Think about it, he was 33 when he died, how old when he broke from wing chun?

Durring that time he was teaching, making tv shows, movies, studying, getting married, having kids, writing and studying over 60 distinct systems? I don't think so.

I would assume studied being any form acquiring knowledge about a given subject. "Trained in" on the other hand would be different.
