gimmik_3
I am just getting into Okinawan kobudo and I'm trying to get some more information on the tan bo. Are they like escrima sticks? If I try to make my own, what are the proper dimensions? Thanks in advance!
KenpoDenz
Yes they are some what similar to escrima sticks. They are usually about 2 feet long with a diameter of about 1 1/4 inch. It's mainly preference though. The ends can be grooved for getter gripping. Some system (ie Red Dragon Karate) have forms where the tanbo is held in the middle rather than the ends. I hope this helped out some. Take it easy.
gimmik_3
Thanks! I've been researching this and have seen several different lengths from 26" to 26 cm!
Pacificshore
A nice pair of Eskrima sticks should be just fine. That was what we used when I studied Shotokan and then cross-trained in Okinawan Kobudo Di'DaDeeeee!!!Mind of Mencia
