thanks for the kind welcome all. nice forum you have here.

yes lori, i'm roger. thanks for the compliment on the book. i wrote it for my son (he was into young adult horror novels at the time... still likes horror, though he has progressed to king and others recently). 'the dying place' did fairly well, though not as well as my collection of poetry and short fiction.

anyway, enough about that.

Wow!! Your son is very lucky! I have a 5 year old daughter (who incidently does not read horror - YET! hehe...). Nice meeting you!

a few more words about SCARS...

i think it is typical of a certain America,

culturally and sociologically

it makes me think of Scientology !

1/

it is the same process that assumes

we are like computer (hard drive, ram, etc.)

and believe in "brain washing" tekniks

2/

it is expensive and ultra-capitalistic/darwinian

(their buisness attitude resembles their techniks)

3/

it is a sect built on one leader who was never recongnize by his peers, because he is in too much hungry for power and control.

4/

it uses a language that is peudo-scientific, and very analytic (as opposed to synthetic)

it uses the word science and shows a max of diagrams, 'proofs'

I am sure there a few good things

but they are recovered with 90% of filth

frankly, these guys make me think of the bad guys in star wars... They worship love for power, anger, attack, money, self-content, and so and so

SCARS is a fighting system developed by a guy named Jerry Peterson. Supposedly it's 100% effective and scientific. Basically it's just another marketing ploy. Peterson held a green-belt in San Soo and when he decided he wanted to make money, he called it SCARS and came up with some "new" concepts and suckered the US Navy to use if for a little while. The Navy saw that they were duped and don't use SCARS anymore, but the SCARS people won't tell you that part.

If they don't tell you,how do you know they duped the U.S Navy?

That would be pretty hard to do don't you think so?

Scars,Defendo and Pankration look similar to me other then the fact that Defendo and Scars teaches weapons as well.

They claim to have taught their stuff in U.S forces, however does someone have to have been in Forces to have learnt that stuff and to teach it?

My instructor has never been in Canadian Forces and teaches Pankration which has same or similar unarmed techniques.

All three styles involve both stand up and grappling and both based on street defense and are being used in army if scars and defendo's claims are true.

Pankration was fought in ancient Greek Olympics.

The muay thai in pankration was and still is used in Thailand's army and has become part of elite military and law-enforcement training all over the world. Organizations like the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Navy Seals, and SWAT have adopted Muay Thai techniques as part of their hand to hand combat basis.

Submission which is grappling is also practiced in Pankration.

My point is how are scars and defendo any different as far as unarmed combat is concerned?

There is no difference,if you look at sites on these styles, you will see they teach the same or similar types of techniques.
