aefibird
I can't get my satin belt to stay tied, thus I rarely wear it. It looks nice, but geez the hassle is not worth it.I found that at first with my Shureido satin blackbelt. What worked for me was to slightly dampen the belt before wearing for the first few times. Then it gradually became easier to tie.My first BB was a satin tokaido and within a year it was wearing so much I felt embarrased.Mine is a Shureido and is wearing very well (I've had it 4 years, wear it all the time for training and it is still almost like new) but a friend of mine, who graded for blackbelt after me, bought a Tokaido. His belt was looking old and raggedy after about a year/18 months of wear so he just wears that for special occasions now and bought himself a tougher, longer-lasting one out of cotton. NidaninNJ
Tokaido belts are definitely the best. I've got a satin and a cotton. They are both really good and have lasted me for years... Don't get the cheap belts where you can see the embroidery backwards on the back of it. That's really tacky. This is something your going to wear for many years - hopefully - so get the best, even if it costs a little bit more. https://www.tokaidojapan.com is the best place for Tokaido stuff. I have heard lots of good things about Hirota too recently. Edited May 27, 2006 by NidaninNJ
