niel0092 Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 What style are you looking for? What do you want out of your training? Here's my school: http://www.mntaekwondocenter.comwe have an affiliate school in Woodbury too. Classes are held 5 days a week and you can go to as many classes as you wish. Tues and Thurs are sparring days and friday tends to be heavy on self defense with lots of boxing, joint locks, elbows etc. Monday and Wed are lots of drills, forms, and conditioning. Check it out we'd love to see you.A very well respected Kali school. I know a number of people that train here. Second to none in the area for high quality realistic martial arts.http://mnkali.comThe home school for the U of M judo Club. I took the judo class back in college and these guys are great. http://www.northstarjudo.org/One of the ladies from our TKD school works out here as well. She's doing really well on the amature fight circuit I hear.http://www.mmaacombatzone.com/And here's a page with a ton of MA schools in Minnesota most of which I know nothing about. The page might e a bit outdated too but it's the best I could do for ya on short notice.http://www.iplease-minnesota.com/write.asp?state=ME&category=799945So, that's a few schools of varrying styles and focus that you may want to look into. Good luck and come see us sometime! "Jita Kyoei" Mutual Benefit and Welfare

We are currently with Bally's and very unimpressed with how they run their business.Bally's has martial arts? Or is it a school that someone is running inside Bally's?(Here in Arizona, Bally's is a fitness center)Just curious,Aodhan There are some people who live in a dream world, and there are some who face reality; and then there are those who turn one into the other.-Douglas Everett, American hockey player
tufrthanu Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 If you are looking for american tkd there are two huge chains here:https://www.nationalkarate.comhttps://www.usa-karate.netThese may be a little too sport oriented for you in which case there ishttps://www.bloomingtonkarate.com my new homeIf your into more the the Muay Thai type stuff thereshttps://www.warriorscove.comTheres a couple of guys that teach HKD out of a TKD dojang in St. Paul, they are fairly hardcore though. https://www.millenniummartial-arts.comTheres also a Hwa Rang Do academy on the mpls side:http://www.hwarangdo.com/Academies/USA.htm#Minnesota Long Live the Fighters!

taiji fajin Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 Kuk Sool Won of Minniapolis/ St. Paul1920 UIniversity Ave.St. Paul, MN 55104 651-690-0039This is the school taught by PSN Kellog, right? I'll vouch for him, great instructor, very knowledgable, and will make sure you actually improve, not just get a new belt every x months for paying dues. Fetch Daddy's blue fright wig! I must be handsome when I unleash my rage.
Odysseus Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 https://www.nationalkarate.comhttps://www.usa-karate.netThese may be a little too sport oriented for you...These two schools aren't sport oriented. In fact, they are both a very good mix of traditional Tae Kwon Do, sparring, self defense, and some elements of other styles (karate, kung-fu, etc.).The Grand Masters of both schools are 8th Degree black belts, promoted by Grand Masters Pat Burleson and Chuck Norris, and studied and taught extensively with Jhoon Rhee, the Father of American Tae Kwon Do.I highly recommend either one of these schools. 1st Degree Black Belt, Jhoon Rhee Style Tae Kwon Do
niel0092 Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 So Rd1, have you had any luck finding a school? Let us know! "Jita Kyoei" Mutual Benefit and Welfare
tufrthanu Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 They are sport karate. All you have to do is look at John Worleys tournament to see that. I'm not saying the art has no value....but thats what they tend to gear it toward. As opposed to going more for the SD aspect. Long Live the Fighters!
