patusai Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Some like to live dangerously, die young and leave a good looking corpse It must be a generational thing. "Don't tell me the sky's the limit because I have seen footprints on the moon!" -- Paul Brandt
cleung Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 I would think that sparring sessions should be more controlled. There's definitely something lacking in that with the sessions you describe. ClintFree Spirit Martial Arts Activewearhttp://www.FreeSpiritActivewear.com
ShadowFox Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 I have a temper problem but I keep it mellow whenever I go to spar, sometime it force me to hold my full strength, but I'm working on controling my temper but also making it so I dont hold back. So I guess some people think that if they go full fury at their opponent that they can win matches really fast. TaeKwonDo Afficianado Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 There is a guy in my TKD class who is a black belt, a while ago, I think it was a spinning roundhouse kick, he hit another guy in the head like full on. The guy who was hit couldn't practice for a long time and to have reconstructive surgery on his face a couple of times.I can't stand people like that. For that I would have almost certainly kicked him out of the dojo if I could have.. what would you guys have done?

There's definitely something lacking in that with the sessions you describe.Control comes with age I think for most. Young guys feel a need to sew their MA oats...so to speak. I wonder what the instructors way when they hear of these stories...or do they? "Don't tell me the sky's the limit because I have seen footprints on the moon!" -- Paul Brandt
karate kid 1 Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 there was a kid in my dojo who had no control and he was hurting people and my sensei said to me if he doesnt use control do what ever you like to him so i caught his foot and slammed him onto the mat lol FEAR is only a four letter wordRORY
cleung Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 If there's a lack of control in sparring no matter what the age groups are and people end up getting hurt, that's one of the reasons why we see such a high dropout rate in martial arts. It's really a shame. ClintFree Spirit Martial Arts Activewearhttp://www.FreeSpiritActivewear.com
Menjo Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Being aggressive is probably the biggest problem (on both ends of the scale) I notice when I throw 'sparring parties'. I basically invite all of my fellow MA buddies or aquaintances to spar in my basement as a way of applying our practice in a street fight scenario. Well, last night a buddy of mine full on KNEED another kid in the face, busted his lip wide open.. as in in HALF. Have you had any insane aggression moments in sparring?Thats a good idea, im going to try to see if i can gather enough buds to do that.(except for busting the lip open thing)...
