I was wondering if anyone here can use one of these things. I have mastered the nunchaku, but this thing!?!?!

I watched a very experienced martial artist try to use one of these things and laughe... ahem, watched as he nearly knocked himself clean out with it... It must a long time to learn hot to use it.

There is a saying in ChoyLiFut;

The long staff is hard to master, but the 3-section staff is 3 times harder.

It takes years to learn to properly manipulate, as it encompasses so many various techniques from striking to trapping and even grappling/throwing.

We are borrowing it from our children."

step one: don't try anything fancy.

unless of course all you want to do is perform flashy stuff without any reference to anything that might be resistance.

earth is the asylum of the universe where the inmates have taken over.

don't ask stupid questions and you won't get stupid answers.

I wouldn't say I've mastered it, no where near that...

But if you put one in my hands I can fight with it without KOing myself.

They are fun, just make a padded one, put on helmets and go at it ;)

A lot of the time you'll be using it almost the same as 2 single sticks, just a little more awkward, when you get or create an opening, or when the distancing is right you can take a swing, but don't lead with this because if it is unsucessful while you recover you are getting hit.

I presently use the three section staff as my main weapon in weapon forms competition. It is one of the most challenging but rewarding weapons to use. I've seen some of the wushu competitors in China use it with absolutely stunning skill.
