Animal Forms and Karate

Are animal Forms, like in Kung Fu, present in some Karate styles(other than Kenpo) where you can actually see the animal forms in their movements instead of just using some hand forms for some hits or blocks?

Shorin Ryu has White Crane in it.

Shotokan's symbol is the tiger, if you think about it certain moves can resemble that of a tiger.

YES they have.

Chintei = Snake Fist

Gojushiho = Woodpecker (peacock) Fist

Unsu = Woodpecker (peacock) Fist

Heiku = Black Tiger Fist

Paiku = White Tiger Fist

Anan = White Swan Fist

Pachu = Dragon (Whirling Ball) Fist

Saipai = Snake Fist.

and many more.

You would be able to find them ...u need to study all katas that have few animal forms movements in them.

These are katas from different systems of okinawan karate,

chinte,Gojushiho,unsu kara Shuri-te

Anan-paiko,Heiku,Pachu are from Ruyei-ryu (brough to okiawa from Taiwan if i'm not mistaking)

saipai is a Naha-te kata

if you are familiar with animal forms you can recognize the animal moves within this kata, although sometimes it is hard to see them in Japniese versions of same kata.

The hakutsuru kata practiced in some Shorin-ryu and Goju-ryu schools are strongly related to white crane.

The Okinawan breathing introduced in Seisan kata in Isshinryu is traced to the hissing of cranes noted in White Krane Kung Fu.

There are a lot of kata out there that are from animal forms.

Hakutsuru is a kata of a white crane

Heiku is black tiger

Paiku is white tiger

Pachu is a dragon (but was originally a white crane system kata)

Hakucho is white swan

and there are a few others. A common mistake though is Anan. Anan is "suposedly" the name of the monk who taught the Ryuei kata's in Taiwan to Nakaima.
