y2_sub Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 Hello I don't know if this should be in the general chat or in the general martial arts , any way .. Remember my last post about me moving to a new country ? that was about 20 days ago , well , my flight is tomorrow . I have many things going on my head & that’s natural since I am moving from one environment to another completely different one . But there are two questions that I can't find an answer for : 1- I was trained from the first day I ever stepped into the dojo at age 14 (now I am 22) to the last training session ( which was yesterday ) to FIGHT , to win competitions , now , as a fighter I am on my prime , I've been in 3 international tournaments this year alone , placed 2nd and 3rd in two of them , I've done pretty well in all the national competitions that I've been to , and now , I have to stop all that , not because I want to , it's because there is no kyokushin out there , I keep on asking myself what’s the point of training alone if I am not to put myself under test and compete ? I find it hard to accept that I am not going to compete anymore . 2- ( that should be in the general chat ) There is that girl that I like a lot , I’ve been going out with here for 2 month now and I really like her , I've never had feelings for any other girl the way I feel for her , and I know she feels the same & I want her to be mine for ever BUT since I am leaving tomorrow & I will be away for at least one year , well , I can't promise her of anything right now cause I haven't done any major achievement on the financial side... I am really confused on what to do , I really like her but I don't want to bound her to me with just words .. Thx in advance Mark Moon might shine upon the innocent and the guilty alike
MasterH Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 I think you are taking tourney's to seriously, it's for fun - enjoy it. But if there are no tourney's for you, compete against yourself. As for the girl, keep in touch with her. If it's ment to be it will work out, if not - that's the way it goes.Good luck! Thx in advance MarkTake the year off, your body will thank you, tell me when you are 50 will you still be competeing, I doubt it so dont take comps so literally.Secondly your only going for a year, it will be a trial by fire of your feelingsGood luck! No matter how fashionable it is in Krypton, I will not wear my underwear on the outside of my Gi!!
Meguro Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 You can always come back. Hatsuo Royama left kyokushin for a little bit, took up kick boxing. When he returned to Kyokushin, he brought the gedan mawashigeri. Then he left and started his own group. You are only bound by your imagination, so cheer up.As for leaving a girl behind. That's a toughie. You can do the long distance thing. One year is not that long. Make it a goal to come back a success to keep the girl.Bon voyage.

Bleeding Lion Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 trainning for glory and trophies is never a bad idea.i train for personal growth, mentally, physically, you could try that.As for the girl, though one, ive been in that situation. If its strong it will survive, if its not then you'll remain friends. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence thus, is not an act, but a habit. --- Aristotle
elbows_and_knees Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 Take the year off, your body will thank you, tell me when you are 50 will you still be competeing, I doubt it so dont take comps so literally.Secondly your only going for a year, it will be a trial by fire of your feelingsGood luck! Varies. I know a guy who competed in a thai boxing match to celebrate his 50th bday. He lost by decision to a 27 year old. Anyway, there is nothing wrong with taking competition seriously. That provides drive - pushes you to your limits and makes you a better fighter. IMO, that is the right spirit. My advice is to continue to train for the year. If there is no kyokushin near you, try to find a thai boxing gym. If no luck there either, train dilligently on your own for the next year, or get some experience in another style that may be offered in the area.

Guess where all of my trophies and medals are... my mother's house! I would throw them away, but she likes to display them, so I just give them to her. Remember the game streetfighter 2? remember ryu's ending?"winning means nothing to him - the fight is everything..."that is the message that was given after ryu didn't show up to receive his medal. THAT is what fighting spirit is about. Not about a prize.
