swooshfinn
Ok, seems to me that the American society has no place for us introverted persons.... at least not any of us college educated ones in the business world without a computer science degree....Anywho.... trying to do retail sales is almost impossible as an introvert, especially in the Do-it-Yourself Home Improvement segment of the retail world. Heck, sales period is near impossible as an introvert...... I need a cube where I can be all to myself most of the time..... White Warlock
there are plenty of careers where being an introvert is preferred. I think you're looking at the wrong careers, or wanting to be something 'other' than what you presently are like. If you're an introvert, and you prefer to stay that way, then start looking at the careers where such is preferred. If, however, you are not happy with being an introvert, a job that 'insists' upon you being an extrovert is probably the most painful, and career-damaging way of making the transition.Another thing to consider is that extrovert-oriented careers are definitely going to be the ones that capture the limelight, that are going to be on commercials, television and in movies. Introvert-oriented jobs are not as interesting for media, because they're like 'monologues.' Since Americans are heavy into the media, of course it's going to look as if they are geared towards extroversion... but such is not the case. swooshfinn
Ok, I admit that maybe I extending myself too far out of my comfort zone to be any good to any employer working retail sales....As for other careers for introverts... I am having a very hard time recalling anything that would be appropriate for that type of personality. I must dig out (if I still have it) my text book from my career development and search class from my freshman year at college. That was the last time I have taken the Meyer-Briggs Personality Type test, and then I tested as slightly (6 points into the introverted range from the extroverted range) introverted. Things such as statisticians, actuaries, histology, tons of night hospital positions, many laboratory positions, heck even pool cleaning most of the time. Oh, almost forgot. You could also do something from home such as medical billing as well.Aodhan There are some people who live in a dream world, and there are some who face reality; and then there are those who turn one into the other.-Douglas Everett, American hockey player
aefibird
I'm a bit of an introvert too. You're not alone. "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..."
