JusticeZero Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 Been noticing that my throws have been getting rusty, but I don't have anyone I can spend the time throwing, and I don't want to spend some of my students' days with him just getting thrown so that I can keep up, given that he's paying someone to be there (that someone not being me, so I can't give him a price break) and i'm not. Was wondering if anyone might be able to come up with some tips on how to keep in practice. The ones i'm trying to work on all work with the principle of stopping the ankle then forcing the knees backward, the one i'm worried about most does so trapping the lower leg between the thighs (taking form precautions to protect the groin - pretwist) and twisting with the hips so that one leg is behind the ankles, and the other crosses the knees. (Sounds strange and awkward, but it's an application of a movement we do all the time for other reasons.) "Anything worth doing is worth doing badly." - Baleia
shogeri Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Not sure what else to say. Partner training is crucial in these aspects. However, continue practicing the basics, and doing things solo until someone comes along.Good luck! red dawn Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 I think you can also buy like a practice dummy...I've seen something like that in some martial arts magazine...kinda like the grapplers version of a punching bag...not sure how well they work though... I never said it wasn't dangerous.
ps1 Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Red Dawn's right. They do sell those dummies. However, all of the ones I've seen are very pricey ($300 +). But when it comes to practicing take downs and throws, there's just nothing like a real person. "It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenius."
