Methods on tripping people up??

The essence of 'trip' is that either a person's center of gravity or their base has been moved so that the two are no longer in line, and the person must be unable to move the two back in line before falling. Push with your hands and they'll just put their feet under them. Your weight is going downward, not sideways. Key to attacking the base to trip is timing; key to weight shift is preventing them from moving their feet where they need to.

Aye, a trip is about causing their center of balance to move (hips/torso), while their base (feet/legs) remains fixed. Strength is not an effective way to make it all work, for the strength you utilize will force you to be off-balance or unable to utilize your own feet to assist in a trip and thus you'll be too busy ensuring your own balance.

There are three 'basic' principles for takedown. Replace, displace, and disrupt. Replace is to replace their center with yourself, or an object, thus allowing you to pivot the person around a foriegn center. Displace is to displace their base with yourself, or an object, thus allowing you to guide the center down (as there is no longer a base). Disrupt is to disrupt the center/base (a vertical dependency) by moving the center while preventing the base from moving, usually by posing yourself, or an object, as an obstacle that keeps the base from traveling with, or following, the center.

k thanks!!! can u guys please summarise your methods as my knowledge on complex words is limited. TY :)

Umm, that was a summary.

If you wish to understand this further, you need to undergo training. A description alone is insufficient. Even a video is insufficient.

you place your hands on the shoulders, you push in the direction of your sweep (if with the right foot yopu push with the right hand), you then pull with the other hand and lift your leg and sweep. Its as simple as that. :karate:

A simpler way is to get into a Judo class, or pay extra attention to your instructor.

I need to stress practice, practice, practice.........why are you still here, go and PRACTICE!! :karate:

That's what dictionaries are for. We use long words because that's the word that means what we want to say, not because we're trying to show off. The meanings of the words is easily available.

  • 3 weeks later...

are you talking about sweeping?

i like attempting to sweep with the rear leg in awalking mothion, the sweep again with differnt leg.

so its basically..when standing with left foot 1st, step through, sweep wirh right leg, step through sweep with left leg..follow with reverse punch.

its a good set up.

If you really want to send someone sprawling, it will take patience and practice. One of the best methods is to play defensive, always retreating when they try to move in for an attack. Make them have to move fast to catch you. When you opponent is moving in on you with sufficient speed, wait until his front foot is about to hit the ground, during the split second when his weight is already transferred but his foot has not made contact with the floor. At that very moment, cup the bottom of your foot and use it to pull his heel about 6" towards his inside (so, if it is his left foot you are sweeping, pull it to his front and to his right, at a 45 angle). Once you have off-balanced your opponent, follow up with your favorite combo. Also, follow h2whoa's advice and find a Judo school to take classes at; that will help you a lot.
