If you do not have any spine problems, or muscular problems, or joint problems, then being in a natural stance shouldn't really cause painful affects.

This just points out that every should consult a doctor before doing any exercise or physical activity anyone says on this forum, in a crowded room, off of a video tape, or in class or otherwise.

If it hurts when you do something, stop doing it until you figure out why it's hurting in the first place.

Good luck!

Massa,

As others have stated, Wing Chun training should not damage or change your posture. Can I ask, with who are you training Wing Chun (your lineage for at least 3 generations back)? Some sifus have a slightly different outlook on posture and position due to their physical size compared to you. Is your sifu taller than you, shorter than you, have more physical mass, less, longer limbed, shorter limbed, etc. All this comes into play. Or you may be performing your body structures just a little bit incorrectly. You can PM me if you like with your response.

System - the martial art that you study and

practice

Style - the way you execute the system

Wing Chun - hit hard, hit fast, hit first!

I would agree that you have a strength problem. try working out and working your whole back properly, ask a trainer. I would avoid roman chair and yoga positions like the lotus, I believe they can be harmful to the lower back.

WW said to try another art. I would do this only if the pain or problem was unbearable. Have you asked your sifu. Maybe combine your art with another.

I would have to agree with all the above. Wing Chuns poster is not that difficult. Restrict your training to what you can do, then progress from there.

Check with your doctor, gym trainer etc. I would also talk to your Sifu and see what he can recommend, Wing Chun movments helped me alot with my back condition. It may just be some small adjustments. If that doesnt work check with another Wing Chun teacher there are lots of methods, to see if there is one that fits your needs better.
