blackbelt22 Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 1.bassei dai(sp?)2.bassei dai3.bassei daii like bassei dai because it is a traditional kata and i dont like all the flashy stuff.and the moves are pretty powerful
MJC The Great Posted October 24, 2005 Posted October 24, 2005 Bassai Dai is an awsome Kata! Lots of powerful blocks and difficult stances. So far, it's probably my favourite too and I don't expect that to change in a hurry, even after I learn all the really advanced katas. The past got us here and leaving it alone was the only way I could be sure we'd never have to live through this nightmare again.
Drithen Posted October 24, 2005 Posted October 24, 2005 I enjoy Chinto and Pai Sai Dai very much, but since I have had my appendix removed its hindered my training a bit "Whatever you do, do from the heart, as for the Lord and not for others. -Colossians 3:23
Tengu22 Posted October 25, 2005 Posted October 25, 2005 For favorite tournament kata, i'd have to say Unsu. To watch, Nijushiho. Favorite kata(s) of all time would be the Tekki series. As a poster said before, there are so many applications to them. "Karate ni sente nashi." - Funakoshihttps://www.KoketsuDojo.com
feels Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 In Kyokushin Karate, Sanchin with ibuki is easily faked through, but difficult for many people to master. It won't win anyone any awards in kata competition, but it is one of the ultimate katas that is essential for Kyokushin training. jay46 Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 My favorite kata is a toss up between Seiuchin and Wansu.
Sensei Rick Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 tekki shodan. after 42 years of studying that kata my instructor thought he had seen all the bunkai of that kata..... till he taught it to me. Is it any wonder that Funikoshi writes that he spent more than three years learning that kata. ouhsssss!!! place clever martial arts phrase here

shorinryu912 Posted November 12, 2005 Posted November 12, 2005 Bearing in mind I am only a 4th kyu so I don't even have that many kata yet... my favorite is Seisan. I think I learn something new about hip rotation or proper explosion of power every time I run through it. You can practice it very very quickly or very VERY slowly (as I do often due to joint injuries) and learn something useful from it. And I think watching a very WINDED, tired karateka run through it tells you volumes about their technique.

Sanchin being strong and power, under pressure. Tensho is at the softer end of the spectrum. My Nidan Grading!
