Bassai Dai is an awsome Kata! Lots of powerful blocks and difficult stances. So far, it's probably my favourite too and I don't expect that to change in a hurry, even after I learn all the really advanced katas.

The past got us here and leaving it alone was the only way I could be sure we'd never have to live through this nightmare again.

I enjoy Chinto and Pai Sai Dai very much, but since I have had my appendix removed its hindered my training a bit :(

For favorite tournament kata, i'd have to say Unsu. To watch, Nijushiho. Favorite kata(s) of all time would be the Tekki series. As a poster said before, there are so many applications to them.

In Kyokushin Karate, Sanchin with ibuki is easily faked through, but difficult for many people to master. It won't win anyone any awards in kata competition, but it is one of the ultimate katas that is essential for Kyokushin training.

tekki shodan. after 42 years of studying that kata my instructor thought he had seen all the bunkai of that kata..... till he taught it to me. Is it any wonder that Funikoshi writes that he spent more than three years learning that kata. ouhsssss!!!

Bearing in mind I am only a 4th kyu so I don't even have that many kata yet... my favorite is Seisan. I think I learn something new about hip rotation or proper explosion of power every time I run through it. You can practice it very very quickly or very VERY slowly (as I do often due to joint injuries) and learn something useful from it. And I think watching a very WINDED, tired karateka run through it tells you volumes about their technique.

Agreed.

Sanchin and Tensho are like the yin-yang of karate for me. Sanchin being strong and power, under pressure. Tensho is at the softer end of the spectrum.
