My instructor has the one with the prong, but we don't use it for training. THAT would hurt LOL. I gotta learn the wrist lock ones :D I'll ask him about it.

I myself never have but i have 2 frineds with red belts and late at night in town we were mugged by a coupl of 18 yr olds but we managed to get rid of them, maybe more because of intimidation rather than skill and strength?

Saying contentment is fleeting is like saying "I can't" - Only a fool would say so for with training, willpower and imagination our minds can take us to heights never dreamed.

Many people talk about sparring in this way:

"Well, if I get attacked on the street . . . "

How many of you have actually gotten into a fight, gotten attacked, or gotten mugged and used TKD?

How many of you are taking TKD mostly for this reason (to learn to defend yourself on the street)?

How many of you have used skills learned in TKD to AVOID a fight?

(At my school, we are supposed to "never misuse TaeKwonDo, be a champion of freedom and justice, and build a more peacful world" according to the "student oath.")

Yes I did. Since TKD also teaches you self control and discipline. I once faced some thugs who strated to talking crap to me, I just turend my back n left the place. well you asked if some1 used his tkd skills on the street and i think thats one skill that tkd teaches. :karate:

Well, I am a Black Belt in TKD. After I became a BB, I worked at a place called Babb lumber in Ringgold, Ga. A few of the guys there found out I was in karate and immediatley wanted to challenge me. Though I tried to ecxplain to them martial arts is not about fighting, yet about learning to become one with ones self. OF course, trying to explain this was futile. I had to use it a few times. But I have also studied Kung Fu, Gung Fu, Shotokan, and Jeet Kune Do. So I had a little bit of an upper hand. Though I do hate fighting. I learned Martial arts for the pure beuaty of it. The philosphy way of it. But yes, I have had to use in on the streets.

Actually, I quit carrying a kubotan per se. I carry one of the MiniMaglites, the one that uses two AA batteries . I can do anything with it that I could do with a kubotan, plus I have the added advantages of a light in dark places and nobody (like airport security) hassles me about something that looks like a weapon.

i have been involved in many fights at school as i used to be bullied. this was until i took TKD after going for about 3 months one of the bullys found out and started calling me the 'karate killer'. one day when i was in the changing rom he pushed me ad pushed me again when he went for the third push i moved and tripped him over he got up and went for me a snap kick to the belly later he was on the floor. they never touched me again

A machine can do the work of 50 men, no machine can do the work of one extraordinary man though

Is TKD effective on the street? Yes.

Is any martial art style effective on the street? Yes.

Basically, they are forms of fighting. It just depends on how good you are. If you just started last month, do NOT go around bragging that you practice ______ martial art.

My IsshinRyu master taught me not to hurt an opponent, but that if someone pulls a knofe, gun, broken beer bottle or other weapon on you, then go ahead and hurt them becasue they are definately not worried about hurting you bad. He also went on to say show no mercy if they attack you with a weapon.
