Smitty
We learn 5 foundational katas, and 5 taikyoku katas, with several variations to them. Then we learn gekisai dai ichi, gekisai dai ni, and saifa at 5th kyu. After that, we learn a new kata at each belt, until shodan, when you learn 5: Seiyunchin, Shisochin, Sanseru,Kururunfa, and Suparumpei (I know I botched the spelling on that one.) P.A.L
we do all katas together to the point every body knows the kata then we divide in groups and do our katas , sensei allways is the one teach the new kata to a student and he choses the time when to start a new one for each student. average one kata every 2 months but kata nothing to do with belt in our school , actually only kids get new belts in our school and in last 11 months i been here i never seen a new belt given to any adult practitioner.
