Goju_boi Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 Excuse my ignorance, but isn't the point of a match to knock the opponent out?well it depends. For example your style is always full contact ,so for that instance then yes.In Karate and many other traditional arts while some do have full contact, many are just point sparring practitioners. That means that they just lightly tap you with their punch or kick and they get points, by the end of the match the person with the most points wins.Personnaly I don't like point sparring, but there's not much I can do about that at my school. https://www.samuraimartialsports.com for your source of Karate,Kobudo,Aikido,And Kung-Fu
y2_sub Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 Excuse my ignorance, but isn't the point of a match to knock the opponent out?not in point sparring , that is true for styles such as MT or KK . Moon might shine upon the innocent and the guilty alike
Goju_boi Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 I'm not too familiar with point sparring anyways. At my dojo I just spar , but with light contact. When they put the points in there,it get's annoying for me. https://www.samuraimartialsports.com for your source of Karate,Kobudo,Aikido,And Kung-Fu
Menjo Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 i also dont like the concept of point sparring as alot of other members in the organization, so after the official matches we always hold a small unofficial tournment with alot more contact. Goju_boi Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 "Odd how you use the term "player" "well maybe that's what it translates to from his native tounge? https://www.samuraimartialsports.com for your source of Karate,Kobudo,Aikido,And Kung-Fu
Menjo Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 ok "Time is what we want most, but what we use worst"William Penn
y2_sub Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 I think what he meant by "player" is "practitioner" . Nonetheless , Karate is NOT a sport , it's a martial ART and a WAY OF LIFE , God.... I hate it when people start talking about karate as a sport , and what's next ? Cardio karate ? Moon might shine upon the innocent and the guilty alike
Goju_boi Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 "Cardio karate "That's called Tae Bo. https://www.samuraimartialsports.com for your source of Karate,Kobudo,Aikido,And Kung-Fu
