SBN Doug Posted March 22, 2002 Posted March 22, 2002 The schools that do spar in my art ususally don't allow it before yellow belt. That would be between 6 and 9 months. Kuk Sool Won - 4th danEvil triumphs when good men do nothing.
Bon Posted March 23, 2002 Posted March 23, 2002 I was wasking my kickboxing instructor if I could go in tournies after a few months.. He said he would, but never did. He then told me at the start of the year, he'd put me in at the end of the year. That would have been 2 years training for me, 'cept I quit that dojo. I recently started BJJ, seems like there's no time limit before you go in tournies. I guess it depends on your instructor and dojo, as well as being *able* to fight. _________________ It takes sacrifice to be the best. There are always two choices, two paths to take. One is easy. kicker Posted March 23, 2002 Posted March 23, 2002 Well in our club it really didn't matter. We have tournaments every 4 months but it's your decision to go into it if you feel your ready. when you do your best it`s going to show. "If you watch the pros, You will learn something new"
dreamer38f Posted March 24, 2002 Posted March 24, 2002 We purchase sparring gear at the yellow/green stripe level(9ish months), then the Grand master wishes you to have 5-6 tourneys by Black Belt level. If you think you can't, then you must. If you must, you will.
gracie_jujitsu_is1 Posted April 19, 2002 Posted April 19, 2002 there's no real time limit if you wanna do nhb. there are guys in our dojo who have studied brazillian jujitsu for less than two months and are participating in a no holds bard tournament next week. pull them in, take them down, choke them out.

MonkeyNinja Posted April 21, 2002 Posted April 21, 2002 Sparring in my school starts at white belt. It toughens up the students. But they only spar against the same belts for now. As far as compitions goes. I think they should be able to compete after a couple of months. Since their are so many differnt catagories, and age/weight groups. MonkeyNinja
