We had a demo today. In the beginner group, we had a boy probably about 7 or 8 doing kihon. The problem was that the whole time, he was dancing around (jumping up and down from foot to foot) I guess the floor was too hot for him or something. My question is: would you have taken him off stage right then and there, or would you have let him finish the demo?

You should let him finish. I'm sure that the audience realizes that this is a beginner and a youngster. Some people in the audience might even get offended by you pulling him out.

I didn't pull him out and I wouldn't have, but I wanted to know which you think would have been worse looking, him dancing around of a BB pulling him off?

I think he was showing off. But no, I will not take him out of the demo because it will look obvious that he made a mistake if BB pulled him off. It's just a demo and people that doesn't know about MA don't know if he is doing it right or not.

The problem was that everyone around him wasn't dancing around. I think he was just making a big production out of the hot stage.

nah i was that old when i started karate its a bit of an ask and you tend to be imature and mess around a bit not taking karate quite seriously. But i have come to realise as he probably will, how to concentrate correctly and respect karate as an art. He was probably as you said just exagerating the hot stage i would have let him finish.

He will learn in time

I hope :)

I used to be an elementary school teacher, so have a bit of back ground with kids. The youngster probably was nervous and couldn't concentrate during the demo and the worst thing the instructor couyld have done was to pull him off. Any spectators to the demo would have understood if he wasn't doing waht he should have been doing, the same as they would during a school play or concert.

Another thing to consider is that the child, being just 7-8 years old, might have had to pee! :D
