ShotokanKid Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 We had a demo today. In the beginner group, we had a boy probably about 7 or 8 doing kihon. The problem was that the whole time, he was dancing around (jumping up and down from foot to foot) I guess the floor was too hot for him or something. My question is: would you have taken him off stage right then and there, or would you have let him finish the demo? "What we do in life, echoes in eternity.""We must all fear evil men. pineapple Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 You should let him finish. I'm sure that the audience realizes that this is a beginner and a youngster. Some people in the audience might even get offended by you pulling him out. What works works
ninjanurse Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 I agree with pineapple. He'll get better if given the chance to succeed. "A Black Belt is only the beginning."Heidi-A student of the artsTae Kwon Do,Shotokan,Ju Jitsu,Modern Arnishttp://the100info.tumblr.com/
ShotokanKid Posted October 2, 2005 Author Posted October 2, 2005 I didn't pull him out and I wouldn't have, but I wanted to know which you think would have been worse looking, him dancing around of a BB pulling him off? trustkid1 Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 I think he was showing off. But no, I will not take him out of the demo because it will look obvious that he made a mistake if BB pulled him off. It's just a demo and people that doesn't know about MA don't know if he is doing it right or not.
ShotokanKid Posted October 3, 2005 Author Posted October 3, 2005 The problem was that everyone around him wasn't dancing around. I think he was just making a big production out of the hot stage. y2_sub Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 I voted for no , for the same reasons mentioned above Moon might shine upon the innocent and the guilty alike
Jay Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 nah i was that old when i started karate its a bit of an ask and you tend to be imature and mess around a bit not taking karate quite seriously. But i have come to realise as he probably will, how to concentrate correctly and respect karate as an art. He was probably as you said just exagerating the hot stage i would have let him finish. He will learn in time I hope The key to everything is continuity achieved by discipline.
Shorinryu Sensei Posted October 5, 2005 Posted October 5, 2005 I used to be an elementary school teacher, so have a bit of back ground with kids. The youngster probably was nervous and couldn't concentrate during the demo and the worst thing the instructor couyld have done was to pull him off. Any spectators to the demo would have understood if he wasn't doing waht he should have been doing, the same as they would during a school play or concert. Another thing to consider is that the child, being just 7-8 years old, might have had to pee! My nightly prayer..."Please, just let me win that PowerBall Jackpot just once. I'll prove to you that it won't change me!"
White Warlock Posted October 5, 2005 Posted October 5, 2005 hehe, that was what i was going to mention. pee !!!! "When you are able to take the keys from my hand, you will be ready to drive." - Shaolin DMV TestIntro
