I believe one of the best that often gets overlooked, possibly because he is from over seas (well in fact he lived in Canada where he won gold medal in 88 olympic vs. Riddick Bowe, but that's another story) is Lennox Lewis. He really dominated his opponents in the ring with his jab. People tend to say he rarely wanted to mix it up in the ring, and that's true to some point, but he was more of technical fighter using his jab (think David Tua!) than a brawler.

tyson was great but made too many mistakes out of the ring

The key to everything is continuity achieved by discipline.

lol yea, although Ali was a loud mouth he did stand up for his religion and i respect that. but Tyson was a really mean dude and there was the rape thing...i really dont respect Tyson.

tyson would have mauled Ali in the street though IMHO

yeah he was a great fighter one of my all time faves.... but i still think in his prime tyson would have ate him alive.

No way. Ali called himself the greatest of all time and he was right, even up to today. A guy like Tyson wouldn't be able to touch him in the ring. On the street, maybe, because Tyson is more of a brawler anyway. But don't forget the incredible speed Ali had either.

And as far as the rumble in the jungle is concerned, maybe everyone thought the odds were against him, but Ali was always a better boxer than Foreman, not to discount Foreman.

Ali was like Michael Jordan- while every generation or decade has it's greats, he was on a whole different level.

very true, i read Muhammad Ali (his life story) its very good. although he lived a pretty fast life when he was the champ he never got involved with the mob like liston and he stayed away from drugs which is what got Chuck Wepner in trouble. although he had a few too many lady friends for a marryed man IMHO he has turned that around too and is now a very upstanding citizen, i think he still does alot stuff for the nation of islam

I don't watch boxing and I am not that interested in it, but I must confess even a total noob in boxing, as I am, is impressed with this man. Must confess I have a deep respect for him indeed.
