fallen_milkman Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 My sifu recently let me borrow this book, and I am enjoying it quite a bit. Basically it recounts the author's (Glenn Morris) experiences involved with personal experiementation in meditation and chi gung, and how it can go wrong, as well as a slew of other topics. While I am a bit skeptical of some of his claims, I still think it is quite the interesting book. Has anyone else read this? What are your thoughts? 36 styles of danger
scottnshelly Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 I haven’t read it yet, but I’d be interested to hear your review when you finish to determine whether or not I should add it to my increasingly long list of books to read.
fallen_milkman Posted September 29, 2005 Author Posted September 29, 2005 Alright, I'll write up a review when I finish. I am about half way through, so it should be a little less than a week before I get back to you. 36 styles of danger
Why_Worry Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 Sounds liek a cool book but dont knwo anythign about it, maybe i'll read it someday. Focus
fallen_milkman Posted October 4, 2005 Author Posted October 4, 2005 No, it's written by a man who studies ninpo. It has funny parts, but overall it is not supposed to be humourous. 36 styles of danger
giang_hu Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 The author writes in the introduction, "I already had considerable experience in karate, jujitsu, kung fu, and Zen meditation..."People who write things like this are the same people who have black belts in kung fu!
Anbu Alex Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 ive read the book some of his stuff seems really outrageous (and perveted too) but his exercises do in fact help me to focus and relax better for training lol my teacher knows Glen Morris and says this guy loves to talk lol he left his training buddy there while he escaped lol White belt for life"Destroy the enemies power but leave his life"
fallen_milkman Posted October 4, 2005 Author Posted October 4, 2005 Yeah, a lot of the things he writes about seem far fetched, even to my open mind, and he doesn't really stay away from the sexual aspects involved in tantric practise (which could be considered perverted...your point of view, not mine). But as for my opinion, I give it an A+. Really I'm not looking for in depth technique or meditation techniques in books (I have a teacher for that), more for an enjoyable read, and insight into things my teacher may not be breaching with me yet. 36 styles of danger
