Shogun of Harlem
I have just started a Jiu Jitsu class and wanted to practice my moves at home. The problem is i have no one to try them on at home. Just curious what others do. Thanks !
TJS
unless you wana do sol drills like shrimping, upas, hip heist drill etc then you need a grappling dummy. If you have a punching bag you can put it on the floor and practice some stuff like strikes on the ground or moving from sidemount to mount/knee on belly to side mount..switching sides etc.
dave3006
Just shadow grapple as if you had a partner. I pick a move and drill it vs. an imaginary partner for 5 minutes and then move to the next move. It works. I constantly surprize myself in class executing a move I worked on at home. I do 30 minutes a day on this type of practise. I don't own a dummy.
karatekid1975
I'm lucky. I have a "dummy" hehehehehe. My boyfriend takes Jujitsu with me, so I guess I'm lucky. But stuff I do alone (right now, because I also just started) is breakfalls, rolls, a cool drill that my instructor showed me. Basically it's going from face down to a "frog" position (I call it ... I don't know the name for it yet) quickly. It's for when your partner has you mounted face down, and you want to "turn over" and throw them off (I hope I explained it right). UseoForce
I'm very proud of my recent innovation:When I do a crunch, I triangle my legs. Next crunch, I triangle them the opposite way. It makes the crunches harder and helps you practice the triangle choke movement. I also do upas, shrimping, etc. Also, I practice lifting my heavy bag as if I'm lifting an opponent from double underhooks. This helps develope motor skills and functional strength. Another thing I do is hand my heavy bag low, so it's about a foot off the ground. I shoot in just like I would against an opponent, drive through, and lift the bag. I'm interested to hear what others do. If it works, use it!If not, throw it out!
UseoForce
I'd also like to know if my ideas help you. If it works, use it!If not, throw it out!
SubGrappler
The first thing I would try to do is hook up with someone in your area who maybe shares the same interests as you. Nothing beats a training partner, so only go solo if you're unable to find anyone else.
