I don't think it helped, or hurt.

I don't have to be the best, just better than you!

Hello,

Although I wasn't alive then, I heard that a "Karate Kid era" was started. This may have contributed to senseis realizing the financial gain possible from opening a McDojo...but that is just assumption.

i had to say it didn't help nor hurt.

i could see that some kids would have liked the movie and were inspired to practice karate, and who knows how it was carried out. but i could also see people who already pratice karate would be a little disapionted to see that it was a fake and was a poor attempt, or that the actors were just that... 'actors' and didn't seem to be too in depth in martial arts.

I liked it, still like it, but it didnt' impact me too much on this matter. I just like movies.

I'll put in my 2 cents:

I think it hurt the MAW because people use it to make fun of martial artists (wax on, wax off)

I agree with you there. That's all I hear from my friends when I tell them I'm heading to class.

Yes, with a crane kick

(I'm sick of hearing that one too.)
