Ka0ticSH Posted March 20, 2003 Posted March 20, 2003 i got NO idea if these have been posted but here they are.. "...a prince who wishes to achieve great things must learn to decieve." -the Discourses (Niccolo Machiavelli) "A corrupt and disorderly multitude can be spoken to by some worthy person and can easily be brought around to the right way, but a bad prince cannot be spoken to by anyone, and the only remedy for his case is cold." -Discourses (Niccolo Machievelli) "Since love and fear can hardly exist together, if we must choose between them, it is far safer to be feared than loved." -the Prince (Niccolo Machiavelli) "He who blinded by ambition, raises himself to a position whence he cannot mount higher, must thereafter fall with the greatest loss." Niccolo Machiavelli "If an injury has to be done to a man it should be so severe that his vengeance need not be feared." Niccolo Machiavelli "Accept what is useful. Reject what is useless." -Bruce LeeShodan - Shizukana-do
dark_adjudication Posted March 20, 2003 Posted March 20, 2003 War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. --John Stewart Mill-- A young man who does not have what it takes to perform military service is not likely to have what it takes to make a living. --John F. Kennedy-- The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his. --George Patton-- The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave... --Patrick Henry-- "There is only one tactical principle which is not subject to change; it is, 'To use the means at hand to inflict the maximum amount of wounds, death, and destruction on the enemy in the minimum amount of time.' " Gen. George S. Patton Jr.
jmy77 Posted March 20, 2003 Posted March 20, 2003 Ka0ticSH aren't those from "The Prince." I am about a quarter of the way through it, it is the most recognized work of Machiavelli and also the reason his name is so wrongfully associated with deceitful politics. I have not read "Discourse on Livy" as of yet (though I do plan to) but, from my understanding it is a better representation of Machiavelli's beliefs in politics and more about Republic rule and self governing. "Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft." - Pres. Theodore Roosevelt "You don't have to like it, you just have to do it." - Captain Richard Marcinko, USN, Ret."Do more than what is required of you." - General George S. Patton"If you have to step on someone else to stand tall, then you truely are a small person." - ?
