orion82698 Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Who here is studying Shorei-Ryu? There is a dojo in my neighborhood and I have read that this style is somewhat rare. I have read up on it, but who here is studying it, and can tell me their input on it?Thanks! I don't have to be the best, just better than you!Working towards 11% BF and a Six pack
SenseiMike Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 I wouldn't say it's extremely rarebut in comparison to tkd, shotokan, wado ryu, even kyokushin, it's rare. You can become a great fighter without ever becoming a martial artist, but no sir, you can not become a great martial artist with out becoming a great fighter. To fight is most certainly not the aim of any true martial art, but they are fighting arts all the same. As martial artists, we must stand ready to fight, even if hoping that such conflict never comes.-My response to a fellow instructor, in a friendly debate
Jay Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 yes its rare i belive that that style is more suited to a person of light and nible body structurego to https://www.tkdtutor.com it is on there they have info about all of the styles The key to everything is continuity achieved by discipline.
Leopard claw Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Shorei-ryu Karate is an old martial art with roots in India and China, it's a hard style. Shorei-ryu Karate means encouragement style of empty hand. The style does use weapons and the five animals. Leopard, tiger, dragon, snake and crane. For the home page go to https://www.geocities/kondo no shokai. There are some good links there too. How many nuns could a nunchuk chuck if a nunchuk could chuck nuns?

shorei_kai_student Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 i would one day like to learn shorei ryu. seems like a good idea Do not follow me I may not always lead, do not lead I may not follow, just walk beside me and be my friend-unknown"A new idea is delicate. It can be killed by a sneer or a yawn; it can be stabbed to death by a joke or worried to death by a frown on the right person's brow." Charles Brower
orion82698 Posted September 22, 2005 Author Posted September 22, 2005 I'm still waiting to hear back from the school. I would drive up there, since it's 1.4 miles away, but I'm getting married this weekend. Maybe this week I'll swing by. I just started my new TKD school, so this might have to wait.
